Patricia’s performance with the Philharmonia Orchestra and conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy will be online for the coming week.
This Russian programme included Stravinsky’s Violin Concerto and Tchaikovsky’s ‘Manfred’ Symphony.
The ‘cadenza-encore’ Patricia gave after the Stravinsky concerto was a mosaique she put together “since Stravinsky didn’t want to write a cadenza to avoid virtuosity for the sake of being virtuosic”.
Press reviews of the Royal Festival Hall concert (17 October 2013):
“Nothing we had heard up to this point quite prepared us for the arrival of Kopatchinskaja.”
“Moldovan, barefoot and wearing what looked like a Vivienne Westwood creation, she might be thought merely eccentric but her playing was utterly riveting, wholly distinctive and totally at one with Stravinsky’s unusual Violin Concerto.”
“..she is perfectly cast in the piece and illuminates it from within, intuitively understanding when to recede into the shadows.”
“I do not expect to hear a more convincing account.”
